Notes

General
The production was set in the 1930s with an eight-piece Palm Court-style band and singer upstage throughout the performance, establishing a distancing and ironic effect. The Milan court became a country house party and Hilary Cromie sang songs by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and the Gershwins.
History
Press night 17 April 1991. The production transferred to the Barbican with several cast changes.
