Sense of the Other, A

Synopsis: Filmed at Northwestern University, Professor Wallace A. Bacon works with students to teach literature through performance. The text chosen is Macbeth. During the year the students were asked to chose eight uncut scenes of 60 to 80 lines which deal with at least two characters. Before performing them in class each student writes an assessment of what the scene means and discusses the analysis with fellow students. Professor’s Bacon’s believes that literature is to be experienced, not just analysed - ‘how does a literary work feel when it speaks?'
