Tonight [22/11/1975]

Synopsis
Twice-weekly television news magazine programme. In this episode Ludovic Kennedy interviews Peggy Ashcroft. In her first television interview Dame Peggy speaks of her unease at the way stage drama translates to televison. They discuss her first Shakespearean role which was Desdemona with Paul Robeson as Othello. She says that she has no wish to play Lady Macbeth or any of Shaw’s heroines. She speaks of Equity and is extremely unhappy at the left/right conflicts within it. She refuses to generalise on marriage versus a theatrical career and states that although she now finds long runs tiring she still has no difficulty memorising lines.
