Caught in the Act: Hamlet

Synopsis: Television documentary on the work of Kenneth Branagh’s Renaissance Theatre Company. Hamlet is shown in rehearsal and production at Elsinore, Denmark in the presence of the King and Queen of Denmark. Derek Jacobi comments on his approach to directing the play, and there are numerous extracts from rehearsals including ‘To be or not to be’ soliloquy (III ii), Hamlet talking to the players (III ii), ‘The Play’s the thing’ (II ii), Laertes’ reaction to Ophelia’s madness (IV v) and the final scene.
