Hamlet: Acts That Roar Loud

Synopsis: Using extracts from KAC’s thrust-stage and television productions of Hamlet, actors and academics discuss the concepts of ‘performance’ central to the play’s structure and its concern with philosophical and psychological conundrums. This study-stimulus video invites viewers to debate and challenge the interpretation of the script offered by the extracts and to explore the reasons for Hamlet’s continual fascination for performers audiences and critics. The video comprises six 20-minute sections: 1) ‘The play’s the thing’ but what, precisely, is the play?; 2) ‘Who’s there?' but what constitutes identity; 3) ‘Look, where he has not turned his colour’ - how does acting affect the actor and the observer?; 4) ‘Hold the mirror up to nature’ - how does drama illuminate life?; 5) Madam, how like you this play?' - what governs an audience’s receptivity?; 6) ‘The players will tell all’ - can any production encompass Hamlet’?
