Shakespeare: The Sonnets

Synopsis
Ronald Draper, Emeritus Professor of the University of Durham, discusses a selection of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Some attention is given to the place in the story of the golden young man, the dark lady, and the poet himself; and all the speculation about the real-life identities of these people - and about the relationship of the poems to events in history - is returned to a literary context. The method turns on the detailed discussion of sonnets: 129, 130, 7, 87, 12, 15, 18, 20, 62, 120, 135, 144, 152.
