Practical Criticism: Reading Skills and the Enjoyment of Shakespeare

Synopsis
Peter Mercer studies the endings of Othello and Macbeth in a manner that resonates backwards through the entire works. He reminds the listener that any group of actors producing and performing drama must use ‘practical criticism’ by the nature of things. No performance will work until every word, nuance and irony, along with every aspect of characterisation, interpretation, staging and lighting, are in place.
