Spring Tide [scenes]

Summary: 1938 BBC studio production of scenes from George Billiam and J. B. Priestley’s comedy Spring Tide. The play was first staged at the Duchess Theatre, London in 1936, with the same two principals. ‘The Scanner’ reports in the Radio Times of 14 February 1938, p. 16 that the ‘adaptation by Royston Morley leaves the story very much as it was on the stage’.

Play synopsis: 'A comedy in three acts’ which begins in Mrs Porrett’s West Kensington boarding house. Those living there have all reached the end of their financial resources, but one of them, Mr O’Hara, proposes getting together to make a business out of his houseboat. After a number of trials the tensions and quarrels of the group are all resolved.
Production history: First performed at the Duchess Theatre, London on 15 July 1936. Published in London in 1936 by William Heinemann and a French’s Acting Edition in 1937.
