Play synopsis

This play concerns the disappearance of schoolgirl Laura Vining after an evening’s coaching at her classics master’s home during which the teacher’s wife makes Laura aware that she suspects her to be infatuated with her husband. This exploration of the different aspects of love ends as a tragedy of circumstance.

Production history

First performed in London in 1951, the play was made into a film in 1953 under the title Personal Affair (Radio Times, 22 February 1957, p. 6).
