The play tells of an old stevedore, Arthur Sinclair, who has an injured leg and eleven children, who refuses to leave the slum in which he is living.

Performed in 1946 at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and in London at the Lyric in 1947. Published by Macmillan in 1946.
