Play synopsis

The action takes place in the outskirts of Leningrad in 1928. Rich confectioner Dor holds a birthday party for his daughter Anna, who is married to engineering student Ivan. Ivan’s communist friends and Dor’s bourgeois friends ‘pass a very Chekhovian evening together’ (Radio Times, 31 MArch 1966).
