Play synopsis

A drama dealing with the proceedings of an improvised coroner’s court in a village school. A woman is suspected of murdering her husband, and she tries to prove her innocence with the help of a King’s Counsel. The battered dead body turns out not to be that of the presumed victim but of the supposed culprit.

Production history

First performed at the Windmill Theatre on 15 June 1931; it was the first production in this new theatre and ran for 16 weeks; published London: Deane 1935.
