Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Swimming in the Serpentine. DESCRIPTION: The snow did not prevent the annual Christmas dip in the Serpentine. Paris also had snow for the Festive Season which caused difficulties for firemen putting out a blaze at Les Invalides. SHOTLIST: Hardy swimmers break the ice for their annual Christmas Day swim in the Serpentine. Although the ice hampers the swim it is a great day for a walk in swimming costume. Fire At The Invalides - CARD 35166 A fire broke out at the famous Hotel des Invalides in Paris during the cold spell. Fortunately the tomb of Napoleon and the museum were untouched, the fire being quickly extinguished in spite of the cold. General views of the firemen among the wreckage and of the firemen carrying away their hoses, frozen with the cold. Cold Spell In Paris - CARD 35170 In Paris, men labour to clear the streets of the snow which covers them. On the ponds and lakes, skaters are to be seen while in the Bois de Boulogne, ski-joring behind cars is the most popular sport. Children, of course, had a great time sliding and snow balling.
