Summary
BFI synopsis: Looks at the sites and construction going on at the atomic power stations of Trawsfynidd, Hinkley Point, and Sizewell. The item opens at the construction site of the Trawsfynidd nuclear power station, showing the Babcock Goliath crane at work. The film then moves on to the Port Madoc industrial site, where another Babcock crane unloads sea-borne cargo. There are shots of parts of the Babcock built reactor pressure vessel, which is also shown being installed at the construction site. Hinkley Point atomic power station is also looked at, and Babcock boilers are shown during the installation of the final parts and contingencies to ensure contamination free components. The film also includes shots inside the reactor and general views of the site, buildings and Babcock cranes in operation. The huge Goliath crane is also shown being dismantled. The last part of the item opens with a shot of a village on the Suffolk coast, and continues with shots of the early construction of the Sizewell atomic power station. A model is seen of the finished station, and there are some general views of the nearby village.
