Summary
BFI synopsis: the Brighton Housewarming Centre and the London Fireplace Fair.
NCB Commentary - One summer day at Brighton, the saying goes, is worth a week’s holiday somewhere else. Sun-shields are right on the nose.
But this is a November morning and Betty and David are on-the-beach with nothing particular in mind ... a day when things can turn one way or another.
David not only looks cold - he is cold -.
Here’s the newly-opened Brighton Housewarming Centre - one of a number in large towns throughout Britain. A curtain of warm air greets visitors at the door - but it doesn’t finish there. There is personal service for the enquiring visitor - or if you just want to browse - the place is yours.
There’s a kitchen showing a dual-purpose cooker which will also heat the water.
In October, at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London the first national Fireplace Fair was opened by Lord Robens.
For five days the trade and general public could see and inspect more than a hundred fireplaces and solid fuel appliances gathered under the one roof.
An inviting fire deserves a pleasing surround - and they come in styles to suit most tastes and purses.
Here’s an idea which will catch-on - a dual-purpose room-heater and boiler which can be built in as a single unit to warm the whole house.
The Brighton gulls still wheel and ride the November sea - but inside, in front of their new fireplace, Betty and David are home and dry - and warm as toast.
