British Pathe synopsis: "In the little village of Scieri, near Florence, the hat-makers work - outside their houses." Lovely shot of a group of women plaiting straw for hats. Some stitch the plaits together. Some stand and some sit, one very young girl works in the foreground. Dissolve into a M/S of the women working. "Their material is a thick grass - plaited." C/U of a woman’s hands as she rapidly plaits the straw. Even closer shot of the plaiting process. "The hat is commenced from the centre of the crown." C/U of the hat being started. "Larger and larger it grows..." C/U of the hat taking shape. The hat is placed over a wooden block and moulded. "...and fitted at each step on a model." The hat is put onto the block again. The brim is sewn around the edge and another block is used to shape the brim. "Even these country hats must have a lining and so ..." C/U of the lining being sewn in and trimmed. The hat is turned for the camera.
