Summary
NoS Summary - painter Alfred Praga paints Jose Lennard.
British Pathe synopsis: Mr Alfred Praga RBA is the President of the Society of Miniaturists and a well known Portrait Painter. "During the 18th Century, the art of the miniaturist reached its zenith, then came a decline. Today, however, there is a great revival," said Mr Praga." C/U of the artist. "The simpler the dress, the better, as there is less chance of accentuating some whim of fashion" he explained. L/S of the artist at an easel with a model sitting up on a plinth posing for him. "Plain ivory is used, and the outline "laid in" with the point of a brush - colour comes later." C/U of the artist at work - he seems to be wearing a dressing gown or smoking jacket! C/U of the model grasping her bosom! C/U of the artist’s work. He draws an outline and holds up a magnifying glass to see the details. "Truly, the Portrait Painter holds his model in the hollow of his hand", said Mr Praga smilingly to Miss Jose Lennard." The artist sits at his easel and holds his hand out cupping it in an exaggeratedly artistic gesture. Through a camera trick, Miss Lennard appears standing on his hand like a ghostly figure. He continues to draw her image. They appear to be chatting to each other as he works. Suddenly she disappears, Mr Praga looks a little surprised. We then see a C/U of the finished miniature. Another of Mr Praga’s miniatures is shown.
