Summary
COI synopsis: The last decade has seen a man on the moon and the birth of a test tube baby. Yet for a century or more much of our everyday lives and the way we do things has remained remarkably unchanged. It’s just the occasional leap of imagination that can suddenly transform the conventional way of doing things; overnight turning established technology into outdated tradition. The basic mechanics of weaving have hardly changed since the industrial revolution. But the prototype of a remarkable new loom uses compressed air instead of clumsy reciprocating machinery to manipulate the threads - and by doing so it can weave five times as fast as the conventional loom.
