Summary
COI synopsis: Almost unknown in 1957, Mary Bignal (since her marriage Mary Rand) hit the headlines with amazing regularity in the next two years. Having won several international athletic track events she was chosen Sportswoman of the Year in 1959. She is one of the finest all-round athletes Britain has known, managing to combine a full-time job at a post office counter with the rigorous training of a champion and the everyday chores of a housewife.
