Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Braemar Gathering. DESCRIPTION: The clans converge again on Braemar in the Scottish Highlands and Her Majesty the Queen, together with members of her family, lend Royal Patronage to the Gathering. "Scotsmen" come from all over the world to compete in such events as ‘Tossing the Caber’ or ‘Throwing the Hammer’. SHOTLIST: MS pipe band marching towards camera. MS pipers marching past camera. MS Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew walking up and being introduced to people. MS man with big drum, going past camera. MS group of pipers with a woman amongst them. Pan with her. MS royal party watching. FV arena. MCU bag with Canada 1976 on it. MCU man wearing Stetson. MS pan to see finish of 100 yards, won by R Oliver of Cowdenbearth in 9.8 seconds. MS sack race. CU boots with spikes in the toes, spikes dig in the ground. MCU Gordon Forbes’ face as he digs spikes into ground to throw the hammer. MS Gordon Forbes swinging hammer (winner of competition), he lets go. Pan with hammer. MS throw being measured. MS two judges making notes on length of throw. CU peg being put into ground where hammer landed. GV throwing area. Pan Gordon Forbes as he jumps for joy after hearing that he has won. MS member of the Royal Artillery of Shoeburyness Tug of War team (the winners). MS another member being given a drink. Then another. MS the tug of war team from RAF Lyneham, who lost final, pulling. CU member of RAF Lyneham team pulling. CU mark on rope. MS Royal Artillery pulling. After first match they changed around. CU Royal Artillery man pulling. CU another Royal Artillery man pulling. MS two teams shaking hands after Royal Artillery won (2-0). MS caber being brought onto field. MLS competitor running with caber. He tosses it, but it does not go over. MCU Colin Matheson from New South Wales picking up a caber and running with it. He tosses it and it goes over. CU Colin Matheson. MS girls doing Scottish dancing. CU foot movements. MS row of girls dancing.
