MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Grand National. DESCRIPTION: The World famous Grand National, a feature of British Sporting Life since 1837, and recently under threat of losing its course, is once again run at AintreeFirst past the post was ‘Rag Trade’, closely followed by the twice winner and favourite ‘Red Rum’. SHOTLIST: CU race card which is opened to the Grand National page. GV stands full of people. MS ditto. MCU man wearing hat with Ladbroke’s Grand National round the band. He turns his head. MLS race board. MCU trophy for the Grand National presented by the News of the World. GV horses in the paddock with No 23 "Colondine" jockey B Forsey in foreground with No 2 "The Dikler" jockey R Barry just behind him. MLS as horses come up to fence No 14. Pull back as they jump at 400’. LS as they come up to fence No 15 The Chair fence which they jump at 416’ and they go onto fence No 16 The Water Jump, they jump at 438’. MS people encouraging the horses on. MS horses coming round corner to start second lap of the course. MS tracking as horses come up to jump No 17, they jump at 462’. MLS tracking as they approach jump No 18 which they jump at 471’. MS tracking as they come up to jump No 19 which they jump at 484’. MLS tracking as they come to jump No 20 which they jump at 498’. MCU tracking pan to see No 1 "Red Rum" in middle of pack as they approach jump No 21 which they jump at 512’. Pan to the back of the pack. LS as they approach jump No 22 Becher’s Brook which they jump at 522’ but a jockey falls off and is hurt. Zoom in to see the jockey being helped by a policeman. MS tracking as horses approach jump No 23 they jump at 548’. MLS as horses come towards jump No 24 at The Canal Turn, they jump at 504’ and go round past camera. MLS tracking as horses come towards jump No 25. MS as they jump fence No 25 track with them. MS tracking as they come up to Jump No 26 which they jump at 606’. GV as they approach the final fence No 30. MS No 1 "Red Rum" jumps first, followed by "Eyecatcher" second and third "Rag Trade". MLS as "Red Rum", "Eyecatcher" and "Rag Trade" come into the final straight at the post "Rag Trade" passes first at 661’ followed by "Red Rum" at 662’, third was "Eyecatcher" at 665’ and fourth the favourite "Barona" at 667’. MS "Rag Trade" going through the crowd of congratulators pan with jockey J Burke. MS as they are at winners position and the jockey dismounts. MCU jockey taking saddle off. MS crowd watching.
