MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The 129th Grand National - Colour Special. DESCRIPTION: The 1973 Grand National - a field of 38 runners take part in the greatest steeplechase of the year. First came Red Rum, with Crisp a close second, third Escargot and fourth Spanish Steps. SHOTLIST: Part 1 SV crowd zoom back to big GV massed crowds in stands & showing course. SV Mrs Topham sitting on chair in enclosure. GV crowds and paddock. SV jockeys entering paddock zoom back to GV ditto in paddock. GV ditto with horses parading around. SV Martin Blackshaw mounting No 29 Swan Shot. SV Jimmy Bourke mounting No 19 Astbury. SV pan Bill Shoemark on Grey Sombrero, No 6. SV Richard Pitman on Crisp, No 1. SV Black Secret No 4 Sean Barker. SV jockeys & horses leaving paddock. SV tic-tack man. GV crowds and bookies. CU bookie shouting odds. GV horses onto course. SV Crisp No 1 pan to Escargot No 2, pan to Spanish Steps, No 3 pan to Black Secret. GV horses parading up course. SV Brian Fletcher riding Red Rum, No 8. GV massed crowds in stands. CU man looks through glasses. GTV horses milling around at start. LV massed crowds. GV as they start to line up and Tim Norman on No 27 Ruff Silk gets thrown. SV lined up for start, they’re off. GV pan as they race towards 1st jump. SCU slow motion No 8 & 4 in picture, jump the 1st fence. GV Richelieu No 28 falls at jump No 1, the field race towards 2nd fence. CU jockeys in slow motion. GV TS as field jump No 2 fence. SCU jockeys in slow motion including No 4 GV TS they jump No 3 ditch & fence Ashviel No 22 falls. CU jockeys in slow motion No 4 in fore ground pan to Grey Sombrero No 6 in lead. GV they race towards No 4 fence. CU slow motion Grey Sombrero jumps No 5. GV they approach Becher’s Brook. CU slow motion Grey Sombrero No 6 jumps Becher’s, he nearly stumbles. GV rest of field jump Becher’s, jockey falls and another, zoom in to jockey getting up. LV race towards & over jump No 7 with Crisp in lead, followed by Grey Sombrero. CU slow motion Pitman on Crisp. GV they jump Canal Turn with Crisp, Grey Sombrero & Black Secret, Endless Folly and Sonny Lad in that order. GV they race Valentines Brook, remote control camera shot as they jump Valentines with Crisp in lead followed by Grey Sombrero. CU man looks through glasses. GV zoom in as Crisp jumps No 14 The Chair, Grey Sombrero jumps The Chair and crashes, the race continues with the race well in lead, he jumps the water jump, SV excited crowd. GV zoom in as riderless horse jumps the water jump, SV excited crowd. GV zoom in as riderless horse jumps water jump and into water, he climbs out and shakes himself. END OF PART 1 [308 seconds]. Part 2 SV Crisp racing round bend well in lead to start 2nd time round, rest of field flash past. CU slow motion Nos 25 & 3 in fore ground jumping fence. GV TS pan from field to Red Rum No 8 starting to chase Crisp, he jumps fence. GV AS Crisp jumps Becher’s followed by Spanish Steps, Hurricane Rock, Rouge Autumn, Black Secret and Great Noise. SV pan TS Red Rum jumps No 23. GV as Crisp jumps Canal Turn, followed by Red Rum,Spanish Steps, Hurricane Rock and others. SCU pan No 1 Crisp approaching Valentines Brook on his own. SV Crisp jumps No 30, the last fence, Red Rum ditto, zoom back to GV showing Red Rum chasing Crisp. GV massed crowds watching from stands. GV pan as Crisp in lead, he starts to falter and Red Rum starts his chase to win, Red Rum passes Crisp to win. GV winner is lead in through crowds. SV Mrs Topham seated in winner’s enclosure. SV James Bidwell-Topham clerk of the course puts sash of honour on Red Rum. SV owner Mr Noel le Mare kissing Mrs Topham, Mrs Topham holding trophy. SCU pan as Red Rum is lead round the enclosure. SG Mr Noel la Mare holding trophy. CU Grand National trophy. GV pan as Red Rum is lead out of winner’s enclosure through crowd. END OF PART 2 [167 Seconds].
