Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Birdmen Rally. DESCRIPTION: Man has always wanted to imitate the bird in flight and the bait of £1,000 attracted many ‘would be’ birdmen and women, to the seaside launch pad. SHOTLIST: SCU dressed in feathers flapping wings. GV pan as he jumps from platform into sea. CU pan down old etching of birdman. CU drawing of old flying machine zoom in through frame to animation. Library - SV another flying machine being prepared, flapping wings. SV towards another machine racing down runway. LV tracking shot ditto machine suddenly turns and crashes. SV pan man operating another flying machine. SV pilot sitting in cockpit of another machine pedalling to turn propeller. LV as plane races along in front of hangars, wings collapse and cave in. SV bicycle with wings being prepared. LV bicycle races along runway towards camera, it lifts off and comes down again, it veers slightly off course and nearly hits another cyclist who falls under wing. SV pan down as David Fennick jumps from platform into sea. CU Batman & Robin looking into water from platform. GV pan as they drive into sea. STV as rescue boat picks them up. SLV pan as J Halpen jumps into sea. SV pan David Bailey jumps with kite type wings. SLV pan as Sue Hutchins launches herself from platform into sea. SLV pan as Rosemary Ogden prepares to jump, wings over balance & fall in sea, she jumps in after. SV pan H Fosier jumps in with wings made from 2 sails. SV Peter Fry practising with kite on beach. CU Fry pan up to kite. SLV pan as he takes run up & launches himself from platform, he went furthest. SLV Peter Holdworth jumps & drops into sea, gets caught under kite but eventually swims clear.
