Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Shakespeare-On-Avon. DESCRIPTION: Prince Philip was one of thousands visiting Stratford-upon-Avon, where William Shakespeare was born four centuries ago, and whose genius was to be acclaimed far beyond the shores of his own sceptered isle. The New Shakespeare Centre, a workshop for all who love Shakespeare’s poetry, was opened by Mr Eugene Black, Chairman of the American 1964 Shakespeare Committee, and Lord Avon witnessed the unveiling of the commemorative tablet. As you enter the Centre, you are greeted by Shakespearian characters engraved on glass, the work of John Hutton. And there is the Nuffield Library with rare early editions and manuscripts.
