Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Measuring in the Round. DESCRIPTION: How round is round, and does it matter? Take a billiard ball for instance. You’d think it was perfectly spherical. It looks like it, and feels like it, too. But now measure its surface with a new instrument, developed by Rank Taylor Hobsons, the Talyrond. And you will see that the surface of the billiard ball has ‘mountains’ and ‘valleys’, though they measure little more than a millionth of an inch. In industry absolute accuracy is vital for moving parts of machinery like ball bearings, car cylinders etc. The Talyrond is the answer. The Talysurf is an instrument for measuring the profile of a given object, and it magnifies the surface of a human hair up to fifty thousand times. SHOTLIST: Key scene. CU billiard balls on table.
