- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: David Cup Tennis. DESCRIPTION: At Sydney, in sweltering heat, over 15,000 people watched the Davis Cup matches. Among spectators were Drobny, Shroder, Hoad and Kramer. Rosewall was there, broadcasting. And the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies. Neale Fraser (Australia) met Orlando Sirola (Italy). The Wimbledon champion after losing the first set, struck his true form and took the next three. Laver, another of these Australian left-handed aces, was in good form against his Italian opponent, Nicola Pietrangeli, and took the first set at eight six after some good exchanges. Spectators packed in next day to see Fraser and Emerson play Sirola and Pietrangeli in the doubles. The match eventually went to the Australians, and for the ninth time in 11 years Australia holds the Davis Cup. SHOTLIST: First singles: Neale Fraser played Orlando Sirola. Fraser won 4 sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3). Second singles: Rod Laver played Nicola Pietrangeli. Laver won: 3 sets (8-6, 6-4, 6-3). CUs Prime Minister Menzies in crowd. CU Davis Cup. CU players. In the doubles Fraser and Emerson of Australia played Pietrangeli and Sirola of Italy. Australia won (10-8, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4).
