Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Congo Dispatch. DESCRIPTION: The United Nations Security Council met again to deal with the difficult and dangerous Congo situation, and it was resolved to call upon Belgium to withdraw her troops from Katanga. And the Secretary General was authorised to send UN troops into that break-away province. Mr Hammarskjold himself left for the Congo at once. . Meanwhile, in Leopoldville, more trouble had been blowing up, and UN troops were deployed to keep the peace in the streets of the capital. The crowds had collected to make yet another demonstration against Belgium, and angry mobs, displaying anti-Belgian placards, gathered in the vicinity of the Belgian Embassy: rumour apparently said that the Belgian Ambassador was refusing to leave at the appointed time. Punctually, the Belgian flag was lowered on the Embassy roof, and, almost immediately afterwards, the Ambassador, Baron Jean van den Bosch, came out to take his departure. And the anger of the mob turned to glee. SHOTLIST: GV interior UN Security Council. CU African member. GV Council voting by show of hands. CU Dag Hammarskjold. Slip pan Leopoldville.
