- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen in Jamestown & Washington. DESCRIPTION: The red carpet was laid down in Virginia, when the Queen arrived in the States. It was an American welcome that greeted Her Majesty and the Prince at Patrick Henry Airport. The first phase took Her Majesty to Jamestown. After an address of welcome from Mr Stanley, the Governor of Virginia, the Queen made her reply. The Jamestown Festival was in full swing and the Queen toured the Old World Pavilion. On display were some priceless treasures on loan from Her Majesty. Then to a reproduction of the fort or stockade built by the English settlers in 1607. From the stockade down to the James River, where there was another replica to be inspected, the good ship Susan Constant, one of the vessels that brought the settlers across the Atlantic to Virginia. After Jamestown, a tour of the town of Williamsburg. Next day the royal couple arrived at Washington. There the Queen was welcomed by her host, President Eisenhower. At the White House a big crowd had collected to see the arrival, on the steps of the White House, Mrs Eisenhower offered her welcome. SHOTLIST: GV of Guard of Honour & crowds. MS the Queen & Prince Philip leaving ‘plane. Shots of the Comet. Shots of Jamestown Festival, the Queen visits Old World Pavilion, examines treasures. The Queen then visits re-production of fort built in 1607, also replica of the ‘Susan Constant’. Shots of the Queen & Prince Philip riding in a pony & trap. Next day in Washington: Plane arrives at National Airport. MS President Eisenhower greeting Queen & Prince Philip off aeroplane. CU Eisenhower making speech. CU the Queen replying. Shots of cars drawing up. Back shots the Queen, Prince Philip & Eisenhower getting in car. GV of cars leaving airport and procession through streets, escorted by motor cycles etc. Shots of White House, cars arrive there. The Queen emerges from car and is greeted by Mrs Eisenhower, who is waiting on the steps. All 4 pose on steps before going in to the White House.
