Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: British Empire Games - Climax. DESCRIPTION: Dramatic pictures of Roger Bannister’s great triumph and Jim Peters heroic effort. His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh was at the stadium in Vancouver when the Miracle Mile was run. The two great under-four minute milers, Bannister and Landy fought out perhaps the greatest mile race ever seen. Bannister’s final burst was too much for Landy, but both runners’ times were under four minutes. There was a dramatic end to the Marathon race, as Jim Peters staggered into the arena. Completely exhausted, he struggled gamely to reach the finishing line, but after a heroic effort, he failed by 200 yards.
