MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Southern Rhodesian Jubilee. DESCRIPTION: Southern Rhodesia is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of its foundation, and the descendants of the Pioneers on the Pageant Ground at Salisbury re-enact the scene of the raising of the flag on that self-same spot sixty years ago. SHOTLIST: KS. GV countryside with hippo pool in foreground. GV of hippopotamus pool & hippo showing their heads & then going under water again. GV of road across valley. Various shots of the Zimbabwe ruins, panning & general. CU pioneer raising rifle above shoulders. GV of pioneers on horseback riding through long grass single file. CU Cecil Rhodes statue. GV of Pageant Ground showing the Union Jack being raised. Matabele warriors doing war dance. GV of crowds in Cecil Square, with procession passing through them. Raising the Union Jack. Bishop of Salisbury - SCU conducting service (silent). Sir John Kennedy in uniform addresses the ceremony (silent). Next to him is Sir Godfrey Huggins the Prime Minister. Night - GVs of street, and shots of automatic illuminations, (set-pieces). Government Buildings floodlit, etc. Day shot - tribes people outside their tents working. GV of what looks like power station under construction. Modern plane on tarmac. Vanderburg coach with people alighting.
