MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Big Issues Debated at UN. DESCRIPTION: General MacArthur goes himself to inspect the progress of the Marines in the advance on Seoul. The Supreme Commander’s report that North Koreans were still being supplied with weapons by the Russians comes before the Security Council. Mr Malik denies the charge and when a sub-machine gun is passed round for inspection he decides to leave the Chamber before it reaches him. Meanwhile, Mr Vyshinsky arrives to replace Mr Malik as head of the Soviet delegation for the General Assembly of UN at Flushing where he greets Mr Bevin. First of all, the Assembly had to consider an Indian motion to admit Communist China to the United Nations, a motion which was defeated by a substantial majority. SHOTLIST: KS. CU UNO emblem (library). MacArthur steps ashore at Inchon, shakes hands with officer. Several shots of him walking along countryside, inspecting etc. At the Security Council, Warren Austin addresses saying that Communist are supplying machine guns etc., produces one of the captured machine-guns. Cut-in Malik seated. Hands round Council the machine gun etc., for their inspection. MS & elevated MS of Jebb inspecting machine gun. Malik walks out. At Flushing, Vyshinsky & Malik enter General Assembly. Interior - shake hands with Bevin. General Romulo opens session. Romulo says something on this line "words are a mockery when men are giving their lives etc. etc". Vyshinsky addresses session in Russian. Acheson addresses session on each country having a UN fighting force perpetually maintained. Library - Elevated MS of group of artillery, firing. MS artillery guns firing. Flame-throwers advance - several shots. Dawn shot of troops advancing across country.
