- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ministers See Malaya in Close-Up. DESCRIPTION: With the situation officially described as deteriorating the Colonial Secretary and the Secretary of War went out to Malaya. Mr MacDonald, Commissioner General for South East Asia was at Singapore airfield to greet Mr Griffiths and Mr Strachey. SHOTLIST: KS. Gurkhas line up with background of forest. Devonshire Regiment troops on patrol in dense forests, various shots some very good. Gurkhas (reinforcements from Hong Kong) aboard ship docking, & disembarking. Cameronians disembark at Singapore, various shots of them marching off out of camera down winding (long) road. Wipe to plane taxies on aerodrome. Griffiths & Strachey alight. CU of both. Greeted by Mr MacDonald (Commander General for South East Asia). GV squatters camp. Griffiths & Strachey inspect same, play with small children. Sign reads "Malaya Auxiliary Police". Police lined up with rifles. Volunteers also, several shots of same. Car leaves grounds. Also jeep with (blown-up) Strachey in. Various shots of Strachey with patrol through dense forest - (all 16mm blown-up). Strachey dressed same as troops.
