- Summary
- In the forces the footwear casualty rate is high. Renovating factories aim to save millions of square feet of leather: damaged boots are sorted, sized, and put into racks; soles and heels are ripped off and insoles removed; uppers are washed and disinfected, then dried. Meanwhile new vamps are cut out and sent off to the renovating factory. The uppers are then patched and stitched and insoles, outer soles and heels added. The boots (150,000 pairs per week) are then good as new. Finished boots.
