Summary
Athens welcomes British troops. Unloading supplies for Greece - food etc. British troops fire on ELAS forces. ELAS prisoners. German dynamite discovered down a manhole. Churchill and Eden arrives [sic] in Athens, to restore confidence in British policy. They are awaited by Field Marshal Alexander and General Scobie. British delegation watch RAF fighter planes firing on buildings still held by ELAS. Archbishop Damaskinos accepts the Regency of Greece. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 10 min, sd, B&W, 35 mm British troops parade in Athens, civilians greet them warmly. Tanks, infantry and machine gun units battle Fascist guerillas in the streets; prisoners are rounded up and searched. Supplies are unloaded from ships. Shows British Generals Alexander and Scobie. Winston Churchill, and Russian representatives at the British Embassy. Dynamite is removed from a manhole. Churchill alights from a lorry. Anthony Eden and General Alexander observe a dogfight between RAF guerilla planes. Archbishop Damaskinos and General Alexander watch a parade of civilians. Record Group 208 Accession 3276
