Summary
Russian sappers construct river crossings over the Dnieper in freezing weather. Tanks and men move across day and night, under ceaseless enemy bombardment across the river. Khrushchev on the scene. Having established several bridgeheads, Russians consolidate positions on West bank of river and move in. General Vatutin, Soviet commanding officer, watches the progress of the battle.
