Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Air Vice Marshal Bennett Speaks to Movietone. DESCRIPTION: Air Vice Marshal Bennett, in the news recently for his dismissal from British South American Airways, tells of his views and his intention to fight the North Croydon By-Election. SHOTLIST: KS Interior AVM and Mrs Bennett seated in front of fire with their dog. Several shots of same. Various lenses includes close ups and MS during his interview. He said: In the creation of the big organisation of an Airline covering an enormous area such as British South American Airways it’s been necessary to have a spirit of initiative adventure and enterprise. I believe we had it in the first place but I don’t believe we’ve managed to keep it, because of the sense of frustration, the interference which has resulted from outside the BSAA. I felt that I could no longer continue to make an effective contribution to Civil Aviation. I feel therefore it was perhaps well that I should go, and now that I’m free, I’m at liberty, at least I hope I am, to express the view that I believe Civil Aviation is being strangled out of existence by this nationalisation programme and by a mass of other restrictions. And I’m free also I believe to enter the fight for these bigger, wider freedoms, which I believe are so important. But after all we’ve got a great crisis coming, there’s no doubt of that and I don’t believe we can survive that crisis unless we recover our freedom to live as Britons once lived. I’m an anti-restrictionist and I don’t see there is any other hope for recovery other than that the individuals should be allowed full scope. We want the spirit of Old England, that’s the line to recovery and so I’m fighting the North Croydon By-Election, but I hope it won’t be just a by-election. I hope the voters of North Croydon will send a message ringing right through the country - a message to the Government of the country to show them that we mean and so with my wife’s help?. Mrs Bennett: Of course. AVM Bennett continues We’ll do our best to see that we get real true freedom, a practical freedom back for every British citizen.
