MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Burma Celebrates Her Independence. DESCRIPTION: The Union Jack comes down in Rangoon to be replaced by the Burmese National flag. As power is transferred Burma’s last governor, Sir Hubert Rance departs. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS CU Burmese God (idol). Night shots - Union Jack being hauled down and replaced by Burma flag. SCU Burma flag at the hoist. The President, Sao Shwe Thaik, inspects Guard of Honour. Elevated shot Sir Hubert Rance with Lady Rance walking across jetty. Cut-ins Burmese seated on pavements and in roadways. Elevated shot Sir Hubert Rance saying goodbyes to friends. Into camera - Sir Hubert and Lady Rance board cruiser HMS Birmingham. Several quayside shots shows HMS Birmingham. GV HMS Birmingham pulling away from quay. On lake in central Rangoon, MS & CU ceremonial barge, aboard which is the President, entertained by dancing girls (unseen). Burmese people walk through streets dressed in their Sunday best. Several shots of public arriving and leaving the Shwe Dagon Pagoda. GV Pagoda. Cut-ins huge crowds watching lake ceremony.
