- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Foyles Luncheon. DESCRIPTION: At a Foyles Luncheon newspaper editors Percy Cudlipp and Frank Owen voice their opinions on the cut in newsprint. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS MS Shinwell addressing. LS Shinwell addressing. Percy Cudlipp (Editor of Daily Herald) addresses members of newsprint (editors). Says the press have a right to criticise the newsprint cut. Frank Owen (Editor of Daily Mail) addresses editors todays Government don’t do things deliberately, but naturally; they stumble along to a destination, and fall over, not deliberately, just second nature to them. Loud laughs from the audience, Mr Shinwell sits beside Frank Owen, the former also smiles. Frank Owen also referred to the amount of news one could get into a six page or four page paper. Mr Shinwell has the last word, speaks about reading, smoking and cups of tea as a habit, which is poisonous. Cut-ins of audience laughing, applauding etc. Shinwell holds cigar in hand whilst he speaks and the two seated either side of him smoke cigarettes.
