Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Margate and the Conference. DESCRIPTION: The delegates arrive for the Labour Party Conference and Herbert Morrison says a few words for Movietone. SHOTLIST: KS GV Margate beach, panning towards the sea, crowds on beach. Various shots of crowds of Labour members arriving at the Winter Gardens, Margate. Mr Noel-Baker arrives by car, asked to say a few words about the Labour Party Conference. SCU of him speaking into mike, crowds around him. Mr & Mrs Attlee from car. Herbert Morrison alights from car walks round back of same. SCU Morrison says: This second Labour Party Conference here assembling, the second conference during the lifetime of the Government, will be one of significance. It will review the work of the Government and the two things that will stand out in the deliberation of the conference will be the debate on foreign affairs and the debate on manpower and economic policy. I believe we shall get very good debates out of the conference than those and other subjects. The conference is, of course, remarkably representative of all sections of the community, manual workers, trade unionists, technicians, middle class people, even employers will be found in this conference, which is perhaps the most representative of political assembly to be found in this country. I hope the conference will have a successful deliberation and it will keep in mind throughout that we serve the country and that it is the needs and the interest of the nation that have got to be paramount in our deliberation.
