Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Heligoland Big Bang. DESCRIPTION: The two islands of Heligoland were strongly fortified by Hitler and now a colossal explosion has been used to demolish much of this war time building. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Shot from ship as it approaches above harbour. Shots of harbour as it enters. GV of submarine pens, damaged. Wrecked 11 gun batteries and various damage done by the RAF during the war. Wrecked fortifications. German Prisoners of War, haul torpedo heads up on winch, several shots of heads being moved and being rolled into tunnels. Aboard ship, SCU SV Lt Commander Mildred with earphone on and looking through field glasses (binoculars). CU of him pressing button on third pip of the one o’clock time signal. Aerial shots of the explosion. LS of same as seen from ship, more spectacular, columns of smoke rising into sky, several shots of smoke rising and wind blowing same to the right of screen. LS of aftermath of explosion with ship in foreground.
