Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: El Alamein Fourth Anniversary. DESCRIPTION: At the Royal Albert Hall in London Field Marshal Montgomery addressed some 5,000 of the men who fought at El Alamein. Mr Churchill also spoke to the gathering and received a great ovation. SHOTLIST: KS GV crowds in hall. Monty on platform. Trumpeters march out and sound call. Monty addresses 8th Army fellows, shots from various angles. Doreen Harris sings Lili Marlane, cut-ins of boys joining in the singing. Monty again addresses boys, speaks about our famous army fade to 8th Army boys, infantry charging across desert, taking cover behind tanks, infantry charge through smoke, take German prisoner from tank, fade back to Monty talking. Cut-in of audience applauding. Churchill walks onto platform, great ovation by audience. Churchill addresses boys, cut-ins of audience listening. SCU Churchill during speech, refers to Monty and about politicians not like their old speeches brought up. Audience applauding. Several officers and men shaking hands in centre arena after speeches. Group shot of same. NB The troops charging across desert is Library material. Also included in library material are shots of Monty in Australian hat looking over map in desert. Churchill in white drill suit, also carrying fly-swish, alighting from plane and walking towards camera.
