- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: England Versus Belgium. DESCRIPTION: The Belgian soccer team arrives at Folkestone where Joseph Mermans spoke a few words. WEMBLEY - They met England at Wembley, a match which was almost fog bound towards the end. SHOTLIST: KS GV cross-channel steamer. Steamer as seen from stern. Group of Belgium team. MS Joseph Mermans with Belgian team around speaks into mike, says "we hope to win, but don’t think we will". This was at Folkestone. At Wembley, two teams come out, introduced to Mr Attlee; the English team are wearing overalls over their football shirts and shorts. MS toss-up. LS Belgians kick-off. Various shots LS, MS & SCU of play. Stanley Matthews falls on ground while dribbling with ball. (Matthews sets record by playing in his 44th International). Play around Belgium’s goal, ball going into net, scored by Jesse Pye. In the Royal Box are Mr Attlee, M Spaak. CU both together. Various shots of play after interval, taken in fog, shot from behind Belgium’s goal seen in the fore, you can’t see past the centre line. Belgium’s goalie makes several good saves. Cut-ins cheering crowds.
