Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Calling All Workers. DESCRIPTION: The end of the war does not mean the end of hard work. However, women who have taken on jobs in industry and transport in the war years are now making way for returning servicemen. SHOTLIST: KS Dawn shot of power station. Underground Station gate being opened. People board escalators, various shots. Also boarding buses. Girls enter workshops, working on lathes, aero engines, using screwdrivers, working on signals, painting etc. Altering train signals, painting bridges, oiling railway points, track maintenance etc. Shot of street with mix to interior of house, wife washing up dishes (trick photography), cleaning windows, using vacuum cleaner. Soldiers enter demob depot, come out dressed in civvy clothes. One walks through Piccadilly Circus, camera focuses on him, traffic speeding past. CU his feet ambling along street. Shot from inside house. Soldier (in civvy clothes) approaches door, silhouette of his wife opening door and embracing him, both walk into camera. Demobbed soldier takes letter off mantelpiece, reads same, letter insert, shows just one line reading "You may start work tomorrow". CU clock, man in bed, superimposed over his past, shows troops embarking etc. Alarm clock starts ringing, cat knocks same off of table, crashes to floor, man jumps out of bed (trick photography - speeded up). Rushes out of house putting on jacket. CU legs rushing along street to work. Enters factory, clocks-in to finish.
