Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: In Germany - Flashes From the Fronts. DESCRIPTION: Tanks and infantry of the American Third Army met with tough opposition at Frankfurt-on-Main. Eventually with most snipers and rear-guard action mopped up the Americans entered the city. Near Wetzler, the American advance succeeded in releasing a number of allied prisoners of war. The Allied advance goes on at high speed all along the Western Front. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Pan of tanks in fields. Transport, equipment, tanks pass along streets. American infantry street fighting, Sherman tanks fire guns in support. Verhmacht poster on wall. German prisoners including SS men brought in. CU types. Driving through Frankfurt-on-Main ruins, various shots of ruins. American infantry march through, German civilians stand & look on. "Slave-workers" wave as Yanks enter. German raid (loot) cigarette shop. Near Hanau, Germans loot railway train left by German Army. Breaking into goods carriages, taking away their hauls. Near Wetzler, shots of Allied prisoners camp, various shots of released Americans (mostly) airmen. Americans behind barbed-wire. Pose for camera in groups, insist on German doctor posing with them as he had helped them so much. Germans of camp are marched away. Americans then march off to freedom. AFU - On Monty’s front, British infantry go forward also tanks, various shots of same advancing. Several shots of General Horrocks addressing his troops (silent). Ruins of Rees, skeletons of buildings; Churchill tank crashes barricade across road in Dulman. Various shots of prisoners being marched off, in groups, sitting around waiting. CU of types.
