Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Aachen. DESCRIPTION: First newsreel pictures of the battle of Aachen date from the middle of October. American armour and infantry fought a house to house battle, which resulted in many German civilians surrendering. Grim fighting continued with German snipers hidden in the ruins of the town. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of Americans firing artillery at town from outskirts. Formation of Lightnings & Thunderbolts & explosions. American infantry on outskirts of town, tanks gather, various shots of deserted streets of town. Various shots of German refugees making their way to Allied line. Group talk to American interpreter. German leaves his house at same time pulling down off door symbol of Nazism (Eagle). CU "Eagle" lying on ground. Various shots of street fighting, Yanks run along streets, snipers in action, tanks assist, occasional explosions. Tanks fire at point blank range to finish.
