- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: US Blast Truk. DESCRIPTION: The American advance in the Pacific has moved forward towards the Philippines and Japan by the concentrated attack on Truk. Striking again and again they hammered the shipping and defences of the island. They then swept northwards to Saipan in the Marianas. SHOTLIST: Cut story - US battleships in line ahead. Map of Pacific, & Map of Truk, shows vantage points. Dawn shot of ships in convoy under way. US pilot climbs aboard plane. Various aerial shots of aerial combat, shows Dauntless planes in combat. Avenger dive bombing Jap shipping, machine gunning, hits registering, ships on fire, zigzagging to avoid attacks. Aerial shots of attacks on Saipan, shows aerodromes shot up, planes (grounded) suffering direct hits. Storage tanks fired, various shots. Formation of US planes returning to carriers. Prior to aerial combat you see plane take off from carrier. Plane lands on carrier, one lands with only one wheel, the other being shot away. The one with only one wheel is a Dauntless, the others Avengers. Wounded pilot on stretcher carried along deck. Map of Pacific, shows how Americans have advanced in that area.
