Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Road to Tunis. DESCRIPTION: The Holy City of Kairouan was restored to normality when the Eighth Army reclaimed it from the Axis. In Sousse the evidence of the accuracy of the RAF bombing could be seen with shattered warehouses and shipping. SHOTLIST: Cut story - GS Elevated of Kairouan, shows roofs of houses & mosques. Pan. Troops mingle with natives civilians. Walk through streets out of camera. Shots in streets of markets, etc. Soldier has fortune told by native seated on ground. GS troops looking in ship with string of sausages in fore, also being cooked in street. CU cornfield & MS field of wild flowers. Damage at Sousse, warehouses, buildings, railway tracks, harbour installations, sunken ships, undamaged bridge with railway track running underneath, bomb lying on same (bridge) (500lb). CU bomb. General Montgomery in Jeep enters Sousse. Crowds cheer, wave, etc. General out of jeep & towards steps of building. Shakes with Admiral (unknown), and inspects troops. Receives bouquets from two French girls whom he kisses once on each cheek (French style). CU same. General in jeep acknowledges crowds. Ends with CU of Montgomery.
