Summary
Pathe synopsis: One way to understand the world is to see it as a market place. The best way to do it is to see its market places. So come on an intercontinental shopping spree and see what’s for sale. In Kashmir the mountain tribesmen live a sparse and often primitive life but when they come to town - they bring wealth. Srinagar, the capital, is where they buy and sell the prized goats whose fleece gives us the luxury of Cashmere wool. Saudi Arabia is a land of Nomads and scorching desert, but they have their luxuries too. They’ve got a lizard market where they come to barter over a delicacy they claim is every bit as choice as lobster. Israel too has its wandering tribesmen - the Bedouins - who come to Beersheba to stock up for their hardy desert life. But where else but Paris would you see them bargaining over a bird? There’s a Sunday morning bird market not far from Notre Dame: an exotic aviary that’s a bring and buy - so very Parisien. But you have to go down Petticoat Lane if you want to see and hear the greatest market salesmen of them all. It’s Sid Strong, the man with the irresistable line of patter that’s made him the King of China and won England a different kind of world cup!
