- Summary
- While some of the headlines were stolen from the Conservative Party’s Annual Conference by the Wilson-Smith talks, there was much expectancy about the platform appearance of Mr Enoch Powell. Mr Powell had a mixed greeting from the assembly. His speech reaffirmed his views on immigration. Immigrants, he said, were a threat to the character of England - they should be encouraged to go home. Tory Party policy was not budged one inch by his views.
