Summary
Torrey Canyon, the 61,000 ton tanker goes aground off the Scilly Isles. Much of her 100,000 ton cargo of crude oil seeps away as the crippled vessel is battered by heavy seas. Britain’s cost is threatened with severe pollution as the escaping oil snakes unpredictably with the tides. The Prime Minister orders all out action and the Navy and an armada of private ships converge on the black threat with massive amounts of detergent in a bid to disperse it.
